A warm start to the day, followed by a hot afternoon! Upper 90s to 100s today with the hottest temperatures focused on northwest Kansas. A Heat Advisory covers much of northern Kansas through Saturday. Winds will be gusty from the southwest. This will be a mitigating factor for the heat danger, but it will still feel like a blast furnace outside. Humidity will be lower to the west, but the air temperature will be higher.

Flood Warnings cover portions of south-central Kansas where rivers and creeks are swollen from the heavy rains earlier this week. These warnings will expire at various times over the coming days, with some lasting as late as Sunday morning. Starting out mild this morning with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, the heat will begin to ramp up as we head into the afternoon. Highs bump back into the 90s for most. Winds stay light farther east, with a more persistent breeze to the west.

Storms have exited the area early this morning, and we will begin drying out as waters recede. Flood warnings remain in effect for swollen creeks and rivers. One notable benefit of all the moisture has been the rapid rise in water level at Cheney Reservoir! As of 3 AM, the deficit at the lake has fallen below 2 feet. The lake has gained almost 2 feet of water since Tuesday morning, and will continue to rise today as more runoff continues to flow into the lake from the watershed.

Severe thunderstorms have tracked through Kansas overnight, producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rainfall! The heaviest rain has stretched from Northwest Kansas through North-Central and South-Central Kansas. Flash Flood Warnings will be in effect for some areas through 11:30 AMA Severe Thunderstorm Watch covers central Kansas through 7 AM. Storms continue to dive south and east with time.

Muggy air is here to stay this week, and that will give us plenty of fuel for thunderstorms over the next couple of days. A dewpoint above 60 degrees is noticeable, over 70 degrees feels oppressive. We start the morning feeling balmy, and into the afternoon the temperature rises to the upper 80s and lower 90s. Storms develop over western Kansas and Nebraska this evening. These storms will be capable damaging wind gusts, and a few large hailstones are possible.

Gary England was many things. A pioneer, a legend, a voice to rely on. To me, he was an inspiration. Oklahoma just lost one of the greats. Though we never met, thanks for helping put me on my path, Mr. England. https://t.co/g8BvEwiXGs
