Flipping the switch from hot and dry to cool and wet as Easter weekend approaches. A cold front moved through Kansas overnight, and has brought much cloudier skies and cooler temps for today. Spotty showers and storms develop gradually through the afternoon and into the evening along and east of the turnpike. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, particularly for wind and hail. It is not impossible for a tornado to occur this evening, but it is improbable.

A few Kansans benefitted from rainfall last night, in particular the Cheney Lake watershed! The moisture is sorely needed, and more is on the way in the coming days. But not today. Instead, we get another early appearance from summertime as we turn windy, dry, and hot. Highs reach well into the 90s, with even a few upper 90s on the table. Record highs are likely to be tied or exceeded today. But it will not be for long. A cold front drops in tonight and brings an end to the heat.

The weather turns unsettled as we head toward the weekend! Our first chance of showers and storms arrives tonight. A few storms develop along an advancing warm front as it lifts in from the southwest. Scattered thunderstorms develop over southwest Kansas and march to the east. The best chance of storms appears to align over portions of south-central Kansas near or after sunset. A few storms may pose a severe threat, mainly in the form of large hail.

Share Summertime is making an early visit to the plains this weekend. Temperatures have struggled to cool overnight, hanging on in the 50s and 60s. This mild start will give us a good shot of making it into the 90s in some places later today. A cold front is moving in today. Ahead of the front will be warmest, behind the front looks milder. Winds will be a bit of a nuisance, with 30 to 40 mph gusts and occasional gusts up to 50mph.

Storms entering far southern Kansas from Kay County will carry the risk of giant hail and tornadoes. Storm Tracker 3 is on it. Weather aware time is now! #kswx @KSNNews @KSNStormTrack3 https://t.co/1MEQwGTEma

SEVERE STORMS TUESDAY NIGHT Chances are increasing for severe storms in central Kansas near and after sunset. A cold front/dry line setup leads to storms developing rapidly and persisting into the night. It's weather awareness time, Kansas! #kswx @KSNNews @KSNStormTrack3 https://t.co/yOfmPE4r2g

Say it ain't snow! Colby has been getting some heavy snow bands, enough to accumulate on the grass. Parking lots and roads continue to melt the snow on contact, but watch for slick spots if you are out traveling in northwest Kansas this morning. #kswx @KSNStormTrack3 @KSNNews https://t.co/QOMn3u6j6s
