The Queensland government is promising to get on top of a multi-billion dollar bill for road maintenance works. More than $8 billion in repairs and resurfacing works was needed at the end of last financial year. Queensland's LNP government is dumping a Labor-era mandate that required certain vehicles driven by public servants to transition to zero emission alternatives. Public Works Minister Sam O'Connor will today unveil a new emissions reduction strategy for QFleet, which manages more than 11,000 vehicles for the government. Under the former Labor administration, a target was introduced to transition all "eligible" passenger vehicles in the fleet to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) by 2026.

Social housing recipients in Queensland earning more than they should will soon be evicted from their homes to make way for new tenants. The state government claims there are some recipients earning well above the income limit that determines who is eligible for social housing. This includes a couple in Brisbane taking home more than $200,000 a year while paying less than $200 a week to live in their social housing unit.

Millions of dollars in deceased estates have gone to the Queensland government in recent years after authorities were unable to find a beneficiary to inherit the money. Between 2020 and 2024, the Public Trustee transferred $2.95 million from ten estates to Queensland Treasury, with the funds put into consolidated revenue. Most of the funds came from a single estate worth $2 million that was given to the state government in 2021.

Brisbane's Exhibition train station will soon reopen for major events at the city's showgrounds, including the Ekka, before operating year-round from 2029. The station at Bowen Hills has been closed in recent years while it underwent a significant upgrade as part of the Cross River Rail project. The first event the station will service is this week’s camping and caravan show, which kicks off from Wednesday and goes through to Sunday.
