I’m currently 35,000 feet in the air flying back from San Diego to Cincinnati with a 1.5-hour drive back to Shelbyville waiting for me when I land – something like a midnight home arrival. I’ve got a few more hours to kill, so I’m doing this now to hate myself a little less in the morning when I’m usually scheduled to write the Friday AM post. Call it a Thursday evening post you won’t be reading until Friday morning.

Just when it appeared the offseason was over, Mark Pope decided to throw a nice little curveball by confirming Kentucky is, in fact, looking to add not one, but multiple pieces to close out the 2025-26 roster. The catch? None are expected to be difference-makers this season, the Wildcats pushing for a redshirt signing or two, maybe a portal player with one year of eligibility remaining looking to live out the dream in Lexington?

Otega Oweh said after Kentucky’s season wrapped up in March that his time in Lexington has been “the most fun I’ve had playing basketball.” He came in as a productive player in the Big 12 and emerged as a legitimate superstar in the SEC, earning All-SEC Second Team honors after leading the Wildcats in scoring at 16.3 points per contest while hitting the double-figure mark in 33 of 36 games played. What’s next for the 6-4 guard with one season of eligibility remaining?

Don’t get me wrong, La Familia beating The Ville inside Freedom Hall to send the former Louisville Cardinals home was one of the highlights of the summer. Nothing gave me joy the way Nate Sestina did torturing that terrible fanbase, or when Daniel Orton emerged as the Dan Issel of Lance Wares after Chinanu “Hawk Tuah” Onuaku spat a loogie like the sore loser he is, ready to whip his ass like an overhand free throw.
