By Jack Reaney SENIOR EDITOR Things aren’t getting any cheaper for the Big Sky County Water and Sewer District, and the district is preparing to pass more of its operating costs onto ratepayers gradually over the next five years. Acting on recommendations in its capital improvement plan, the district expects to raise water rates by 5% for both base rate and volume, and sewer services by 10% on base rates and 3% on volume rates.

Headquartered in Belgrade, the nonprofit offers decompression programs for active-duty Special Operations Forces. In 2024, a $5 million gift from a family foundation in Chicago enabled Big Sky Bravery to purchase 85 acres on Huckleberry Tuff Road in the Michener Creek area of Big Sky.

A triad of third-party appraisals—commissioned by LMLC, the housing trust and Resort Tax—valued the 99 acres of Big Sky land at $46.4 million, on average.
