Even though I’ve been making them most of my life, I have to re-learn every year: how to fashion palm fronds from Palm Sunday mass into crosses. It’s important to come right home with the palms after church, and work on them while they’re green and supple, and have some sharp scissors to take off the woody or dry parts, and definitely remove any stringy or narrow points. You want as much uniform width on the frond as you can get.

I’m biased, but the consensus in the sports world is that the just-concluded NCAA Final Four ’25 was one of the best. Congrats to the Florida Gators, with a superb young coach in Todd Golden and a man among boys in Walter Clayton, Jr.And condolences to Houston, whose venerable coach Kelvin Sampson had the most forlorn facial expression you will see in sports as time expired last night.

Writing this blog entry just ahead of the Florida-Houston national title game here in SA tonight…Gotta say, the two games Saturday were epic, and the city looked amazing on national television. On the other hand, I had occasion to drive downtown on Saturday (I know, ill-advised) and it was a mess. Chaotic traffic flow, pedestrians spilling off of sidewalks and way too many blocked off north-south streets. I don’t know what other host cities have looked like, but it didn’t look like a plan.

The reason we still remember him, and the qualities for which he is still celebrated, are primarily due to his keen letter-writing skills. His “Declaration” and “Confession” are legendary, and give us the shape of his story and ministry.

I don’t think he’s a Nazi, but let me take a stab at your problem here. First, there’s the overuse/abuse of epithets like “nazi”, “racist” and the assorted “-phobe” family of putdowns. You plumb wore them out. People went from flushed-face sputtering denial to Scott Jennings-style eye roll over the last several years. Total overuse. Assertions without evidence. Everyone but you was guilty.
