This interview grew out of conversations with Wendy Call while she was Translator-in-Residence at the Iowa Translation Workshop, where I was a graduate student. We discussed her recently-published translations, in trilingual editions, of three books of poetry by Indigenous Latin American authors: In the Belly of Night and Other Poems and Nostalgia Doesn’t Flow Away Like Riverwater by Irma Piñeda, and How to Be a Good Savage and Other Poems, co-translated with Shook, by Mikeas Sánchez.
