Expecting the Bank of England to reduce interest rates was ‘unrealistic’ but a cut would have helped build ‘greater financial stability for the automotive sector’. That is according to Cox Automotive which admits the central bank’s recent decision to hold rates is ‘understandable’ given the current economic climate. The Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) yesterday (June 19) announced that rates will be kept rates unchanged at 4.25% following a a split vote.

Family-run dealer group Holden has opened its second Renault dealership on the site of a former Volvo showroom. The East Anglian business previously represented the Swedish brand on the King’s Lynn, but the premises have lay empty since operations were moved last summer. Now however, the firm has officially launched a state-of-the-art new Renault franchise on the plot, in a move which ‘brings more choice to car buyers in West Norfolk’.

Dealer group Perrys has posted improved profits for the first time since 2021 with bosses said to be ‘pleased’ with the firm’s performance. The Car Dealer Top 100 firm saw its pre-tax profits slump significantly in both 2022 and 2023 but that trend has now been allayed, according to fresh accounts, recently published via Companies House. Documents show that the Northampton-based retailer made a profit before tax of £2.61m in 2024– an 37% improvement on 2023’s £1.89m.

Bosses at Hatfields are remaining tight-lipped amid rumours that the family-run dealer group is set to be taken over by Lithia. Car Dealer understands that talks are at an advanced stage over a deal which would see the US giant acquire control of the JLR specialist. Sources close to the group have told us that staff were informed of the takeover in an email on June 4.
