A new video-game studio is set to open in Montreal, adding 200 to 300 jobs to a sector that in recent years has seen a slump after massive pandemic-era investments dried up. The studio will be U.S.-based Iwot Games’s first and will be tasked with adapting Wheel of Time, a fantasy book and TV series, into a role-playing video game.

Students and alumni gathered in front of the bilingual FACE school Monday morning, singing songs and chanting slogans in protest of Quebec’s decision to scrap a planned renovation of the downtown Montreal heritage building. “Our school is not for sale,” a protest banner read. The protest came on the heels of Education Minister Bernard Drainville’s decision to cancel a project that he says had become too expensive to advance.

Planned renovations for the bilingual FACE school in downtown Montreal will not go ahead, a person with knowledge of the file confirmed to The Gazette on Saturday. Initially projected at $150 million, the province opted to cancel the heritage building’s planned renovation after estimates increased to $375 million.
