A former Eversheds Sutherland U.K. employee has been banned from the legal profession by the Solicitors Regulation Authority after attempting to bill his firm over £135,000 for pro bono work. The SRA said that Thomas Elliott, a project co-ordinator with Eversheds, was also club secretary at a “local sports club”. In 2023, Elliott introduced a player at the club to Eversheds, with the firm agreeing to represent the player on a pro bono basis.

Pinsent Masons, Greenberg Traurig, Al Tamimi & Company and Pepsi-Cola International were the big winners at this year's Middle East Legal Awards, which took place at the Conrad Dubai on April 30, with over 400 of the industry's top lawyers attending the ceremony. The Law.com International awards, now in their 13th year and hosted by television presenter Dina Butti, honored law firms, in-house legal departments, teams and individuals across 35 categories.

More than 60 A&O Shearman partners have exited the firm in the eight months since the firm set out plans to cut 10% of its equity partnership, according to Law.com analysis. The research identified 59 partners who have left the firm’s partnership outside of Asia since September 2024—a number which includes several retirements. In addition to this, several partners have left in Asia.

Who Got The Work J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Activist group Law Students for Climate Accountability (LSCA) has named five law firms it considers to be the “worst” for acting on litigation that exacerbates climate change. In its sixth annual report on the industry, LSCA singled out Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as the worst performer—followed by Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Arnold & Porter, Kellogg Hansen, and Baker Botts.
