JUMP TO SECTION Jump To: Rhode Island legislators passed a broad ban against so-called “assault weapons” last week, prohibiting the sale of a variety of popular semi-auto guns. S.359A passed both the state’s House and Senate and was sent to Gov. Dan McKee (D) for signature. McKee is endorsed by Everytown and Giffords and, having already allocated funds in the 2026 proposed budget for the ban, is expected to sign the bill.

JUMP TO SECTION Jump To: North Carolina legislators passed a bill last week that would allow Constitutional Carry within the state. The Freedom to Carry NC bill, also known as Senate Bill 50, would allow U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age and not otherwise prohibited to conceal carry a firearm without a permit. SB50 narrowly passed the House with a 59-48 vote. It previously passed the North Carolina Senate in March with a 26-18 vote.

JUMP TO SECTION Jump To: Fifteen states and the District of Columbia filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration over Forced Reset Triggers. The lawsuit, filed in Maryland, targets the recent deal between the ATF and FRT-maker Rare Breed Triggers. In May, the Department of Justice announced it was dropping litigation in three pending cases against Rare Breed.

JUMP TO SECTION Jump To: Pending legislation in the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee could abolish the $200 tax stamp on suppressors while keeping the rest of the NFA requirements in place. The reconciliation bill totals nearly 400 pages and features more than 150 separate sections with suggested reforms of the U.S. tax code. One of those sections targets the National Firearms Act — specifically the $200 tax stamp required to own a suppressor — removing that tax.
