A reflection between laundry loads

She said, write a moment in you life like a scene of a play or film and you are the character. Go see what happens when you write as the observer. And so I did. ____Haphazardly balanced in her outstretched arms, the clothes tumbled from the oversized bucket into the wide open mouth of the washing machine. No separation, all together now for child one’s laundry. The wool socks with animals printed on them dance in a free fall with the black sweater with the yellow and white flowers on it.
Grief joys, an oxymoron.

Yesterday, I mistook a piece of cinnamon cake for a small ladybug-esque beetle and I placed the small bug in my mouth. It sat on my tongue enough to taste and it did not taste like cinnamon. I immediately grabbed it back out, still alive and a bit disheveled. Raucous laughter ensued as my children watched the entire happenstance.

I landed in Southern Maine over 18 months ago by way of our home for the past almost 10 years that was in Colorado. But I would say that I, myself, really landed in Maine about three-ish months ago. To be clear, I am not here for the lobster. I am not a boat person. I have barely touched the islands you can ferry over to or hike at low tide and camp on. I have seen a lighthouse. Or two. I have not been in one. I haven’t been to the outdoor concert venue in Portland.
A Meeting at the Café

As if I am preparing to conduct numerous job interviews, I sit at my two person table at my favorite café in Maine and stare at the door. A clipboard with prepared question is on the table along with a notebook and pen. I have a half full, half warm beverage and I feel apprehensive. You know when you can feel the edges of your soul on your skin? I feel like that. The coffee shop has a wall of shelves full of books, which I find comforting.
