KINSTON, Ala. (WTVY)—Progress is being made on the Kinston School capital project, with Coffee County Schools leading the charge on this new addition. Crews are busy building a new multipurpose building just behind Kinston School, the campus’s most significant addition in several years. Coffee County Superintendent Kelly Cobb said the school has done great things in academics and athletics, making this project even more special.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Vaping amongst school-aged children is a problem that educators battle every year. Part of new Alabama legislation that sets new vaping regulations could help with this problem. “If it is in the public, it is in our public schools,” said Todd Mitchell, Principal of Carver 9th Grade Academy in Dothan. Mitchell has seen vaping become an issue too often in schools.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Emergency management agencies like Houston County’s have spent all year preparing for hurricane season, which started this month. Despite the season kicking off in a time of uncertainty surrounding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with recent cuts, things are business as usual, according to Dothan/Houston County EMA Director Mark Powell. NOAA predicts around 13 to 19 named storms in 2025.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Physician shortages are a major problem in Alabama, but a new law aims to address the state’s physician shortage. State Representative Paul Lee (R-Dothan) sponsored House Bill 346, which removes the 100-hour service requirement for physicians who volunteer at free clinics. Lee says a physician in the Wiregrass brought the time requirement issue to his attention, resulting in this bill.
