Crash on Sunshine Skyway Bridge closes all but one southbound lane

Southbound traffic on I-275 was at a standstill Friday morning after a crash with injuries on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge caused first responders to close all but one lane of traffic. The crash was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. Friday on the southern end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. All but one southbound lane was closed as first responders worked to assess the crash. Two ambulances were seen on scene from FDOT traffic cameras.

Leah Lendel was released from the ICU Wednesday after a shark nearly bit off her hand on Wednesday, June 11 while she was swimming off Boca Grande with her family. Lendel was rushed to the hospital and later taken to TGH, where she's been recovering since the attack.

LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland man is dead after crashing with a car on his motorcycle on North Crystal Lake Drive Wednesday night, according to Lakeland Police. Police said officers responded to the crash on North Crystal Lake Drive around 7:04 p.m. Wednesday. They found the 26-year-old motorcyclist and began life-saving measures, taking him to Lakeland Regional Health. Despite their efforts, the man died at the hospital from his injuries.

OAXACA, Mexico — Hurricane Erick has made landfall as a category 3 storm in Southern Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center, after rapidly intensifying overnight to an "extremely dangerous" category 4 storm. The National Hurricane Center's Pacific office said Erick made landfall around 7:43 a.m. EST in extreme western Oaxaca, Mexico, just east of Punta Maldonado, with sustained winds of 125 miles per hour.

Crash investigators said the 36-year-old Plant City woman was driving along the Kathleen Road westbound entrance ramp leading to I-4. She lost control, struck a guardrail, deflected off the rail, struck a concrete wall, and caught fire, investigators said.
