The weekend has been nice so far and it will remain quite nice for Mother’s Day this Sunday!Expect more clouds but still bright skies and some sunshine at times. It will be warm and breezy with highs in the mid to upper 80s and gusts up to 30 mph. With the high humidity, peak feels-like temperatures will reach the low 90s for many locations. Besides a spotty shower or storm, it will remain dry Sunday but that changes starting tonight as a slow-moving front inches closer to Florida from the Gulf.

Unlike last weekend when it was rather cloudy with scattered showers and storms across the area, we will see a bit more sunshine in addition to mostly dry conditions this Mother’s Day weekend. Expect a blend of sun and clouds on Saturday, eventually giving way to mostly cloudy skies late in the day. The breeze will be a bit stronger, becoming gusty at times, out of the southeast, which will at least make the heat a bit more bearable.

Following a more active period of weather from Saturday through Monday, a quieter weather pattern has returned which will last for the rest of this week. Looking back, it sure has been the case of ‘haves and have-nots” when it comes to rainfall totals measured since last Saturday. Some locations have received 4-6 inches of needed rainfall while others have barely seen a drop!Barely a drop of rain is now in the forecast these next few days with just the chance for a stray shower.

Following an unsettled Saturday with scattered showers throughout the morning and midday time frames, more showers and even some thunderstorms will be possible both Sunday and Monday. A stalling front to our north will get close enough to South Florida to focus additional moisture across the region while our steering flow — the winds that guide the thunderstorms — will be out of the west/southwest.

Signs of dry season coming to an end and rainy season soon returning will be present this weekend and into the very start of next week as rain chances rise and notably return to the forecast. South Florida’s rainy season does start in less than 2 weeks on May 15, which is when daily shower and storm chances typically are present. For our Saturday, many areas will remain rain-free as shower activity will be isolated in nature.
