UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 23, 2024: Since this blog's original posting, Microsoft announced plans to enter into a long-term contract with Constellation to restart Unit 1 at Three Mile Island to meet demand from its new data centers in PJM. In contrast to the Talen/Amazon transaction, Unit 1 had been closed—since 2019, because it was no longer economical—so this arrangement will result in new low-carbon electricity coming online.
