For a long time now, local split-screen multiplayer games have been something of a dying breed. Be it because of the internet being almost all-encompassing now or people just hanging out in person less often, these sorts of games, at least in the AAA space, aren’t made as much. However, as Devolver Digital and Peculiar Pixels have shown today in revealing BOTSU, the genre, thankfully, isn’t dead yet.

One of the curious qualities of 90s-era mascot platformer characters is their uncanny staying power. More than twenty years have passed since most of them debuted, and gaming still widely celebrates the likes of Mario, Donkey Kong, Banjo-Kazooie and Conker. Less successful ones like Croc are now enjoying a resurgence in popularity, and even the infamous Bubsy is still managing to hang in there. Yep, somehow, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back was not the end of the pun-loving feline.

Truly great games usually don’t need DLC, but it’s still kind of disappointing when great titles don’t get any follow-up content. Sabotage Studio hasn’t been the sort of developer to leave fans hanging. It’s been steadily supporting its hit RPG Sea of Stars ever since release, and its next addition is now only a couple of weeks away. What’s more, for those who currently own the game, it’s completely free.
