I played the network test for Elden Ring Nightreign, and I have many thoughts. There is an incredible game in the bones of what I played, but the execution isn’t there – yet. As someone who has clamored for a way to replay certain boss encounters in previous Souls games without replaying those games entirely, this could be the best avenue.

Ridley Scott’s long-gestating follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2000 blockbuster Gladiator is finally here and joins the ever-growing list of legacy sequels. Releasing 24 years after the original, Gladiator II boasts a star-studded cast, bold action sequences, and all the extravagance and excess of Rome. Naturally, the first question on people’s minds with sequels like this is, “Does it live up to the original?” but in the case of this feature, that framing feels very limiting.

When director Todd Phillips created the original Joker movie in 2019, plenty of conversations surrounding the film were more interesting than the actual film itself. As stated in my side of a double-review article Full Circle published upon the film’s release, I found myself dumbfounded at the controversy surrounding the film. Was this apolitical, predictable, Scorsese homage-filled movie what people feared would incite real-life violence?

The Spider-Noir series is really happening, as recently leaked images from the set have revealed the first look at Nicolas Cage as the titular lead. Having originally played a version of the character in the animated Into the Spider-Verse, the star will now bring the character into live-action. Cage was spotted on set in plain clothes, which makes sense given that his days as a superhero are behind him.

On the one hand, the Director and the rest of the team behind the production are expected to do something fresh and exciting with the original concept. On the other, some viewers also expect a level of familiarity or homage to what made the original so incredibly successful and iconic. How is one supposed to handle a project of such clashing ideas?

Development on DC Studios’ Lanterns is moving along well, as the project is looking to cast one of its main stars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Pierre and Stephen James are in the mix to star as John Stewart in the upcoming series. Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams introduced John Stewart in 1971’s Green Lantern #87. Initially created as a substitute Green Lantern, Stewart has since become a primary character in the Lantern mythos and has even gone on to lead the corps.

DC Studios may be looking to develop its upcoming cinematic universe further with some of its most notable villains. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a team-up film featuring Bane and Deathstroke is in the works with a script from Matthew Orton. Created by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan in 1993, Bane debuted in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1. Born and raised in a prison, he was the unwitting test subject for the super-steroid Venom, which granted him enhanced strength.

Going into Trapezium, I expected a fairly typical idol anime with some fun misadventures, a few catchy songs, and a heartful message about friendship. What I did not expect was one of the most manipulative main characters I’ve seen in a while and an underdeveloped critique. The movie honestly left me confused after watching it as I tried to balance the charming visuals with the troubling story at its core.

Before Michael Bay’s live-action Transformers Films and the myriad of spin-offs, the Transformers Generation One cartoon aired in 1984. The creators designed the show solely to sell the toy line that Hasbro and Takara jointly developed before The Transformers: The Movie told an epic story that eliminated the characters (toys) to make way for a new cast of Transformers (and new toys to sell).
