IntroductionClick to copy section linkSection link copied!Organic color centers (OCCs) are molecularly tunable quantum defects that can be synthesized by covalently attaching functional groups to the sidewalls of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). (1−4) These defects display many intriguing properties, including the formation of new optically allowed emission states (E11– and E11–*) that are red-shifted from the SWCNT band-edge emission (E11) in the shortwave infrared.

IntroductionClick to copy section linkSection link copied!Boron nitrides (BNs), a family of sp2-hybridized boron and nitrogen atoms exemplified by boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), feature a strong in-plane polar bond that endows the nanostructure with excellent mechanical properties and high thermal resistivity, in addition to being an electrical insulator (band gap ∼5.9 eV).
