The first of two weekends in the Walkoff Wood Bat Tournament saw two local schools go the distance in their respective brackets. On Saturday, both St. Joseph Christian and Bishop LeBlond were able to punch their tickets to championship matchups, only for both teams to come up just short. In the semifinals of the blue division, St. Joseph Christian was able to easily coast past Sioux Falls Christian, a team from South Dakota, by a score of 10-0.

For a program that took several years to get back on the course, St. Joseph Christian boys golf has seen real individual and team success that spans from last year to this year. For a short stretch leading up to the 2024 season, the Christian boys golf team was unable to compile the numbers necessary to compete as a team. The 2024 season saw Christian send three individuals to the Class 1 state tournament.

Just as Missouri Western baseball was about to dig themselves out of a rut, Missouri Southern extends Western’s losing streak to three in what’s been a rough season for the Griffons. On Monday, the two teams met once again to finish out a three-game conference series. Missouri Western had lost the first two games to Southern, offering no resistance in either game to one of the top teams in the MIAA. The Griffons lost the first two games of the series by scores of 12-4 and 6-0.

Missouri Western senior football player Jonas Bennett will attempt to make an impression at 1 Arrowhead Drive after receiving an invite to the Kansas City Chiefs local pro day. An annual event, the former Odessa High School standout will be among several local prospects who will take to Kansas City on April 7 and take part in organized workouts in order to show off their skills to members of the Chiefs coaching staff ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Mid-Buchanan baseball's second straight game against an undefeated team fared better for the Dragons on Tuesday as they shut out Polo 5-0. Led by senior pitcher Will Archer, the Dragons only gave up one hit the entire contest. Archer set the tone for the Dragons on the defensive side, putting together a nice outing overall, and in the second inning in particular. Archer would strike out the side in the top of the inning, two of them went down swinging while the other went down looking.
