UK startup Pulsar Fusion is developing Sunbird, a nuclear fusion rocket that could drastically cut down journey times in space, shown here in an artist’s impression. Pulsar Fusion Sunbird’s fusion process would only require grams of fuel — in the form of deuterium and helium-3 — and would not produce any radioactive waste. British startup Magdrive has developed what it calls a game-changing propulsion system for satellites, shown here in a render, which is 10 times more maneuverable and 10 times smaller than current options. Because it runs on solid metal, the system, shown in this render, could one day be powered by space junk collected in orbit.
