During the quarter, gross profit dropped 2% to €613m (£522m) while sales fell 2% to €999m (£851m). Womenswear sales were unchanged, however menswear fell 1%. Sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) were also unchanged for the period, however the Americas and Asia Pacific experienced a drop of 3% and 6%, respectively. Brick-and-mortar retail and wholesale sales fell 4% and 3%, respectively, however digital sales increased 5%.

Under the terms of the merger, 3G Capital has agreed to pay $63 (£47) per share in cash for all outstanding shares of Skechers. The transaction will be financed through a combination of cash provided by 3G Capital as well as debt financing that has been committed by JP Morgan Chase Bank. Upon completion of the transaction, the company’s common stock will no longer be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and Skechers will become a private company.

Primark owner Associated British Foods (ABF) reported a 12% decline in operating profit to £835m in the period. Group revenue fell 2% to £9.5bn, while profit before tax dipped 10% to £818m. George Weston, chief executive of ABF, said: “Primark delivered good growth in Europe and the US, with continued consumer caution in the UK. Primark’s profit and margin delivery was strong and our low-cost operating model is working well.
