As a high school teacher, I have had the privilege of forming deep bonds with thousands of children. Miraculously, I could make so many authentic connections with thousands of children in my 20 years in the classroom. I believe it was my sincerity and authenticity that made children trust me. Several years ago I was having a very hard time comprehending a situation at work. One of my mentors, an older and more seasoned teacher, looked at me and bluntly exclaimed, "Well, Jade, you aren't a very worldly woman. You may not understand many things."I was offended because I thought that she calling me eccentric or weird, and I didn't want to be weird. I wanted to blend in and not always feel like an oddball. I wanted people to like me and want me around.
