Those attending: Veda Gerrard, Anna Graham Lindeen, Joan Mackey, Judie Deepe, Jade Smith, Peggy Sue Watts, Mary Whaley, Irbi Nelson, Lisa Kunkel, Sherie Barber, Bette Neal, Holly Barnes and Carla Mowell. Lisa Kunkel and Sherie Barber will host the next coffee Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Kunkel home, 870 U.S. Highway 14 west of Shell.

A small group gathered on the lawn of the Historic Red Shell School Wednesday, Sept. 4 for the annual meeting, when board members reviewed the past year’s accomplishments and answered questions from community members. During the year, the board added a much-needed entry porch, handicap access at the back door, and spray foam insulation around the plumbing and building ringwall. They also added metal landscape borders and a gravel path to the school.

Sherie Barber was hostess of the event which was held at the home of co-hostess, Karen Hayes.

As Memorial Day rolls around, many local residents will make their annual trek to the cemeteries to honor the dead by leaving flowers and spending time reflecting on the family members, friends and community members who touched their lives and are no longer with them. At least one cemetery can be found in each community, some claiming even more than one. In the Shell area, there are three cemeteries, each with its own special ambiance and each having its own special story.
