For the second time in the 2024-25 regular season, rivals Hallsville and Harrisburg faced each other on the basketball court. On Dec. 20, Hallsville defeated Harrisburg 70-53. Thursday night saw both teams play in the semifinal round of the Harrisburg Tournament. Like the first meeting, Hallsville came away victorious taking down Harrisburg 68-58. It marks the fourth straight time Hallsville has defeated Harrisburg.

As the regular season is approaches its final month in February, Hickman boys head basketball coach Cray Logan message to his team is clear: The standard is set and doesn’t waver. Hickman (11-5) got back on track this week. After snapping a four-game losing streak to Lindberg 55-49, the Kewpies turned around on Wednesday night, defeating Booneville 67-40 at home for its largest victory of the season.

Before the Sophie Cunningham Classic, Rock Bridge (6-7) girls head basketball coach Jill Nagel reminded her team that every season isn’t smooth sailing. “We’ve talked about it,” Nagel said. “How seasons are a roller coaster. Even if you win a lot of games, there’s still roller coaster moments.” This message came amid a roller coaster moment. After starting 5-1, the Bruins lost three games in the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational. Shortly thereafter, the team fell to Liberty North by three points.

For three days, plenty of high school girls basketball talent took the court at Columbia College. There were many impressive performances and thrilling games including those from local teams in the area. Here are 20 players that stood out at the Sophie Cunningham Classic. Centralia dropped its first game of the season to Strafford 67-57, but it doesn’t discredit the performance by both Brunkhorst and Gordon. Brunkhorst recorded a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers.
