DiscussionIn our retrospective cohort study comprising adults aged ≥40 years, increasing cumulative prescription days and the number of classes of antibiotic use increased the risk of asthma incidence. We also adjusted for potential confounders, including specific infectious diseases that could indicate antibiotic use. Our findings were consistent with those of additional analyses with different washout periods until asthma development or an extended duration of antibiotic exposure.
