We got a sorta interesting ranking in a recent traffic survey here in Portland. According to research, our traffic lasts a long time. We have 6 ½ hours of rush hour here, which is the 4th worst in the nation, behind LA, DC, & Seattle, BUT, we seem to handle it pretty well, because our average commute time is one of the best in the nation. I guess we’re good at traffic? Another eclipse is happening tonight in our skies, and there’s a reason I’m telling you about it.

If you’re hoping to shoplift, might want to avoid Washington Co. for awhile. The County has just been given a grant of a million and a half dollars to combat retail theft, and just this weekend, Tigard Police Department scooped up 21 people shoplifting at various stores, so unless you’re a pro like that dude from Can’t Hardly Wait, move it on down the road.

US Bank is leaving the US Bank tower in downtown. Big Pink, as most people know it, is gonna be looking for a new name pretty soon as US Bank is moving a bulk of its workforce to other offices downtown, as well as to the US Bank office in Gresham. Excited to see what the new name will be, but you know it’s gonna be Moda Tower or something.

Despite both teams winning their home openers this weekend, the future is a little less sure for your Oregon State Beavers. You know the Pac-12 is only two teams this year, and they’ve just announced that they may not be playing the Mountain West conference next year either. Yikes, I don’t know, OSU and WSU might be playing Central Catholic next year. Two Sauvie Island corn mazes have been revealed, both with a nice message.

2 days without cell phones, and the students are already saying, “noooo thank you.” Grant High School has adopted the little lockable pouches where students carry their phone with them, but can’t use it, and students have already started a petition to get rid of them, which has 1,000 signatures already. Who would have thought this would be unpopular? As of 8:00 this morning, the new Costco in Ridgefield is open, and you can bet there’ll be traffic.

Did you know bicyclists are allowed to roll through stop signs in Oregon? I didn’t know that. The practice (which is called an “Idaho Stop”) has been allowed since 2019, and researchers at OSU have been studying it, and apparently, it only increases danger when people don’t know about it, so there you go. Sorry if you just wanted to play dumb on that. The Great Winter Weather Reveal has been shared by none other than the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

No Tax On Tips is not a new idea, but Oregon might just do it on our own. We could have a bill to vote on next year about it. Consider that Oregon, by law, pays everybody minimum wage, so employers can’t pay people less if they’re getting more tips; that does happen in other states. Also consider… does anybody claim their tips? You have to be real honest for that.

Will Fred Meyer & Safeway be able to merge? That decision will be made here in Portland. This plan has been in the works for a while now, but the government got involved, and is saying that this will make the new company too big, and blocked the merger. The union for the workers is on the government’s side, and the hearing should take about 3 weeks. A Cirque du Soleil performer fell and banged herself up this weekend at the Expo Center.

A Great Dane in Hillsboro is up for an unusual award; it’s called the Hambone Award from Nationwide Insurance, and it’s for pets who got in medical trouble, and go through it. For Skye, our local dog, he went toe-to-toe with a weasel, and got his tail whooped. He’s up against a dog who ate a bunch of glue, and a dog who ate a bunch of puzzle pieces. Go vote for him. The 4500 employees that belong to the UFCW555 of Fred Meyer might just be striking soon.

Lake Oswego is joining the growing list of school districts who are banning cell phones during school hours. The policy requires that phones be turned off and stored away (except during lunch), and anybody caught using it, loses their phone until their parent can come to the school and pick it up – and that right there is how this is going to work. Don’t get me involved, kiddo, I’ll smash that thing.
