With a tight lacrosse game and a packed nest, Jan. 18 felt like just another ordinary daywith the Thunderbirds. On Jan. 11 in Rochester, the Thunderbirds won against the Rochester Knighthawks 19-18; the final goal was a buzzer beater from Clarke Petterson. With a second left on the clock, Petterson shot over four players clogging the house, picking the bottom left corner clean and putting Halifax up by one. A week later, Rochester visited Halifax in the Thunderbirds’ barn.

Halifax Thunderbirds’ defenseman Tyson Bell was suspended by the National Lacrosse League on Jan. 8 for seven games after punching a fan in the head and hitting another with his stick. The St. Catherines, Ont. native is due in Denver, Colo. court on Jan. 22 for assault with bodily force. As Bell was about to leave the floor after a 19-14 road loss to the Colorado Mammoth on Dec. 21, two fans ran to the glass by the exit and began to taunt him.

Watertown man Ryan Borgwardt confirmed he’s alive in Europe and talking to investigators but still unsure if he will return home, Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll said Thursday. Ryan Borgwardt, the Watertown man who authorities believed faked his own death, has been communicating with investigators “almost daily” from Eastern Europe since Nov. 11,Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll said on Nov. 21.

Tammy Baldwin declined to reveal how she would vote on upcoming Senate bills to block $20 billion in weapons sales to Israel, anti-war students said following a Monday meeting at Baldwin’s office.

After almost two months of searching, Green Lake County investigators think Watertown man Ryan Borgwardt, who was reported missing in August, fled to Eastern Europe. A Wisconsin man who went missing after kayaking and was presumed dead actually faked his death and fled to Eastern Europe, abandoning his wife and three children, investigators said at a Nov. 8 press conference. Ryan Borgwardt of Watertown, about 40 miles northeast of Madison, was reported missing on Aug. 12.
