Pete Medhurst, the longtime voice of Navy athletics and a local sports talk host, died at 55 after a battle with cancer. “Last night we had to say Goodbye to Pete Medhurst,” his wife, Brenda, wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “Pete fought a very hard battle against an aggressive melanoma cancer. He spent his final hours surrounded by the kids and I and he felt so much love. We are heartbroken and devastated.

Stop if you’ve read this before: The Washington Commanders pulled out a last-second victory this past Sunday and lived to fight another day. As time expired in Tampa, Zane Gonzalez kicked the Commanders into the divisional round of the playoffs with a field goal that banked in off the right upright as time expired, sealing Washington’s first playoff triumph in 19 years with a 23-20 win over the Buccaneers.
