After nine years at Opinion, Max Strasser will shepherd Ideas, tapping into big thinking around the newsroom. Almost a year ago, Joe asked us to create a new initiative for ideas journalism at The Times. The premise was this: In a complex and changing world, there’s a huge and untapped opportunity for our journalists to take on deep, explanatory pieces that introduce the ideas shaping the beats they report on. This impulse led, last October, to the creation of a new weekly feature, slugged Ideas.

Last month, I announced that Kathy Ryan would be stepping down as the Magazine’s Director of Photography. Today I am very happy to announce her successor in this important job: please join me in congratulating our new photo director, Jessica Dimson. Kathy obviously leaves some big shoes to fill, and there is no one who is more up to the job than Jessica. We are truly lucky to be able to turn to a journalist as impressive, confident and visionary as her at this moment.

We are excited to announce the creation of a new weekly New York Times interview franchise that will provide readers and listeners with intimate, in-depth conversations with notable people from all realms of public life. It will be co-hosted by David Marchese, the Magazine’s Talk interviewer, and Lulu Garcia-Navarro, a veteran and well-known audio journalist who hosted “First Person,” an interview show for Opinion Audio, after 17 years at NPR.

A truly great run. Bravo @mwollan. Take a bow.

Nearly every week for seven years I called up a stranger and asked that person to describe how to do something. I sought out advice on animals and empathy, on birth and death, on pratfalls and skipping stones. This is my last @NYTmag Tip column. https://t.co/S8SJHRM2Xt

Great thread from @emilybazelon introducing her new story, an important one that’s on the cover of this weekend’s @NYTmag

Thrilled that the @nytimes coverage of airstrikes in Iraq, Syria & Afghanistan has been awarded a Pulitzer in international reporting. So proud of @AzmatZahra, @David_Philipps @EricSchmittNYT & the many reporters & editors who worked so hard on this important coverage!!!
