The ballot also includes a statewide referendum to determine if the tax exemption currently available to surviving spouses of military servicemembers killed in action also should apply to those whose spouses died in the line of military duty.

A plane flown by a Fredericksburg man crashed Thursday afternoon in Fauquier County. A single-engine airplane attempted an "emergency landing in a field when it collided with several trees," according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.
