A support group in Dundee that helps people with drug, alcohol and mental health issues is facing closure due to lack of funding. The charity CrossReach has run services in the city for 20 years, but funding from the local alcohol and drug partnership ends in six weeks, leaving the future of the lifeline service in doubt. Kimberley is one of the many people who arrived at the charity’s door seeking support. “I was in quite a dark place – I lost my house; I lost everything,” she told STV News.

The Scottish ancestral home of the family who founded the world-famous Harley-Davidson motorcycle has been saved from demolition. The group preserving Davidson Cottage has secured more than £300,000 to obtain keys to the centuries-old building and plans to redevelop it into a visitor attraction. Nestled in a peaceful and picturesque part of Angus, the motorcycle company has its roots in this tiny cottage in the village of Aberlemno.

A new Scottish Farmville-like game has been launched which invites players to try their hands at managing and restoring land while avoiding the threat of a pandemic. The game, called Restore, was developed by scientists at the University of Stirling and designed by Edinburgh-based games studio Glitchers. The title hopes to broaden understanding of the benefits of environmental restoration and the risks of pandemics.

Band member and co-songwriter of Heaven 17 Martyn Ware has candidly refused an offer from Rockstar Games to include their 1983 hit, Temptation, in Grand Theft Auto VI. The rockstar was offered $7,500 (around £5,700) by the game development studio, which also has offices in Edinburgh, to include the song in the GTA V sequel.

Emergency services remain in attendance at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after tackling a fire within the building’s basement. Four appliances were mobilised to the scene after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a smell of burning at 1.30pm on Wednesday. The fire has since been extinguished, but crews remain in the area. Some areas of the hospital have been evacuated with staff still unable to return.

One person has been injured and a street in Aberdeen has been cordoned off after a spillage of “potentially hazardous materials”. The casualty was handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service as a result of the incident on South Esplanade Street in the Torry area of the city. The street has been cordoned off, with three fire appliances and specialist hazmat (hazardous materials) resources were mobilised to the scene.

Work to weatherproof and preserve the St Kilda Kirk has begun as the 200th anniversary of the historic church approaches. Extensive repairs to the roof and the replacement of gutters and rhones are required as part of a first phase of the work costing over £200,000. St Kilda, an archipelago located on the main island of Hirta in the North Atlantic, faces gales approximately 75 days a year with peak winds of 144 mph.

Unique footage of critically endangered Scottish wildcats has been captured thanks to thermal imaging technology helping local conservation efforts. The video, captured by BH Wildlife Consultancy, is thought to be the first thermal drone image of its kind in Scotland. It shows an adult female teaching her kitten how to hunt voles in the Angus Glens, and a single wildcat roaming among windblown trees in Glen Doll.
