    Mduduzi Nxumalo (35) will spend the next 40 years behind bars after being sentenced for repeatedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl. Finalised in the KwaDukuza Regional Court last week, Nxumalo’s case related to three separate incidences of sexual assault between February 27 and March 14, 2020, which culminated in rape. Through evidence led by state prosecutor Nokwanda Mthembu, the court heard of the horrifying circumstances surrounding the abuse.

    A 16-year-old KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) debt of R14.6-million drew bipartisan concern in KwaDukuza council last week. The debt, owed to the iLembe District Municipality, has accumulated since 2007 and has steadily become untenable for KDM, one of four local municipalities that fall under the iLembe district. It has come under increased scrutiny from iLembe recently as the municipality seeks to recover funds from its considerable list of debtors.

    Far from being frightened, the children of the Siyakhula Crèche were thrilled with a visit from the dentist last week. Visiting the crèche in Shaka’s Head on Wednesday, Dr Mandla Jobela from Sunset Dentistry in Ballito gave free check-ups to the older children, mostly around the age of four. As part of an ongoing outreach programme, Dr Jobela will be visiting a series of crèches and orphanages in partnership with The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund over the next few months.

    Property law specialists AMC Hunter have returned to Ballito and invited the community to their renovated offices last week. The firm hosted a number of new and returning clients and service providers to their Sandra Road base on Thursday for an evening of canapés and networking. Previously operational in Ballito, AMC Hunter had been focusing their efforts on Amanzimtoti and Durban before finding their way back to the North Coast this year.

    Three North Coast locals recently took on the inaugural Banger Rally in the Midlands and brought home the sought-after silver duck for good measure. Travis McLea and father son duo Johnny and Gary Mutton took on a series of challenges in their ‘BokCar’ (pronounced Bokke in honour of the World Cup) and ended up winning the whole thing.
