The junior delivered an electrifying performance for BFA-St. Albans, sparking a 19-3 victory over Spaulding. He pitched five innings and struck out three batters while allowing two hits and issuing zero walks. “He did a great job and he didn’t surrender any runs at all,” Spaulding coach Dan Kiniry said.

MONTPELIER – Southpaw Brody Stanton and the Montpelier baseball team are tracking north with their trajectory after earning two shutouts in a 48-hour span. Stanton was a weapon on the mound and at the plate Thursday for a Solons squad that improved to 2-0 with a 7-0 victory over BFA Fairfax. The Capital City squad has given up a total of five hits in both of its games after opening the season with a 10-1 win at Hazen.

Central Vermont boys hockey teams featured star-studded casts this winter and produced some of the best collective results ever for Washington County schools. Spaulding (14-6-1) snagged the No. 2 seed in Division I, while U-32 (19-4) finished runner-up in D-II after losing to Harwood (21-2) in the final. The teams’ highly decorated standouts included seven 100-point performers in addition to record-setting defensemen and goalies.

BARRE – Spaulding baseball prepared to face early-season defensive challenges entering Tuesday’s season opener for Oxbow. And even though the Crimson Tide experienced their share of Murphy’s Law, big contributions up and down the batting order helped Spaulding hold on for a 19-15 victory. Zach Parker and Tanner Arsenault both had multi-hit afternoons and also contributed multiple RBIs while leading a Granite City squad that only had limited outdoor practices in preseason.

Anastase Bourgeois threw a one-hitter during Tuesday’s five-inning 15-0 victory over Spaulding, extending her team’s winning streak to 49 games. The Olympians are the four-time defending champs in Division III and continue to prove that they may be the top squad out of any school across the state. Bourgeois racked up12 strikeouts and didn’t issue any walks.

NEWPORT – There can be a lot of pressure when you compete for a Montpelier girls tennis program that’s made 30 semifinal appearances since 1977 and is 9-7 all-time in title matches. High expectations come with the territory. And so do positive results. Champs in 2021 and 2022, the Solons snagged their second straight victory Monday by prevailing 6-1 after making a 90-minute trek to North Country.

MONTPELIER – Both doubles teams were on a heater Friday for the Montpelier girls tennis team, which overcame chilly conditions to earn a 5-2 victory over reigning Division runner-up Rice. Senior Natalie Quinn won the match of the day at No. 4 singles and the Solons didn’t drop any games in doubles action to take care of business in their season-opening match.
