Life after Liverpool is not always especially good for those players and staff who choose to move on. The Reds have seen numerous examples of players leaving for what they assume to be better things, only to be brought back down to earth quickly. While this could not exactly be said of former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders, it is fair to deduce that the Dutchman had things much easier at Anfield. After leaving Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp in May 2024, Lijnders has had a strange ride.

The Reds are already showing intent in the transfer market, as Arne Slot aims to build a team capable of retaining the Premier League title. Hughes had a largely inactive first summer as Reds’ sporting director, but he is certainly making up for it now. Exclusive with Graeme Bailey. Luis Diaz’s camp have been left surprised by the new stance from Liverpool’s hierarchy over a contract extension, Rousing The Kop can exclusively reveal. Liverpool and Richard Hughes had previously indicated to Diaz and his representatives in January that a new deal was something they were willing to discuss. Talks were loosely scheduled to take place at the end of the season, with Diaz believing his performances had warranted improved terms.
