On Feb. 6, the Springfield Police Department held its annual awards ceremony for its officers and their families. One officer in particular was awarded twice. Kraig Akins, whose initial following and subsequent traffic stops ended in the fatal shooting of Stacy Kenny on March 31, 2019, was awarded both the Chief’s Award and, later, the Superior Tactics and Response, or “STAR,” Award.
