The Career Catalyst programs will be held on Thursday nights, starting April 24 and running until May 15, at ALX Community’s office at 277 S. Washington Street.     Two commercial trucks were destroyed, and no one was injured in a fire this morning in Alexandria’s West End. The Alexandria Fire Department was called to the 100 block of S. Early Street at around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning (April 16). No injuries were reported, although two box trucks were engulfed in flames, according to dispatch reports. The blaze was extinguished in 10 minutes. The Alexandria Police Department also reported to the scene.

    A sweeping plan to redevelop two popular parks on the Alexandria waterfront is heading into the city review process. Waterfront Park (1 Prince Street) and Point Lumley Park (1 Duke Street) in Old Town flood frequently. The city wants to close both parks from the fall of 2026 until the fall of 2028 to rebuild segments of the sea wall and install a pumping station to recirculate floodwaters back to the Potomac River. The city is planning for the infrastructure to have a life span of 50 to 75 years.

    After nearly five years in business in Old Town, an apartment hotel is poised to change hands. San Francisco-based Kasa Living, Inc. filed paperwork with the city last month to take over ownership of the Sonder, a Marriott Bonvoy 15-room apartment hotel at 805 King Street. The studio and one-bedroom apartments cost upward of $200 per night. The facility is light on staff, with one maintenance worker on-site to handle requests from guests, who check in and out and submit requests via their phones.
