Are you and your children at risk? Can you imagine having an emergency and the fire department, ambulance service, or law enforcement is not able to find or access your home or business. Maybe they find your location but cannot get to you because the driveway is blocked by low tree limbs, ruts, or other obstructions that prevent emergency vehicle access to your home or location.

This story was originally published by Grist and appears here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration. Whenever Ram Amar explains his idea for mitigating climate change, people usually look at him strangely and ask if he’s crazy. It’s easy to see why. His startup, Rewind, wants to sequester a gigaton of carbon each year — about 10 per cent of what climate scientists deem necessary each year to reach net zero by 2050 — in a remarkably simple way.

The biennial “Centre Study” by the Social Democratic Party’s affiliated think-tank the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung has found that eight percent of adults, one in twelve, now have a right-wing extremist worldview, up from 2-3 percent a few years ago. The study also found that 38 percent of people believed in conspiracy theories and 16 percent had a negative attitude towards foreigners. Meanwhile, faith in democracy and public institutions has dropped below 60 percent, according to the survey.

His startup, Rewind, wants to sequester a gigaton of carbon each year — about 10 percent of what climate scientists deem necessary each year to reach net zero by 2050 — in a remarkably simple way. The elevator pitch goes like this: Gather millions of tons of agricultural waste and send it to the bottom of the Black Sea, where it won’t decay.

A lot of people dunking on Vance by highlighting Operation Paperclip … but don’t forget the myriad of skilled Canadian engineers and scientists who left Canada after the Avro Arrow was cancelled and joined NASA to work on the Apollo program.

Vance is so good: "The American Space Program, the first program to put a human being on the moon, was built by American citizens. This idea that American citizens don't have the talent to do great things, that you have to import a foreign class of servants, I just reject that." https://t.co/Wnr1XBfBxg
