The Watford playing legend was originally brought to the club by Steve Coppell back in 2006, but it was not until Brian McDermott took over in 2009 that the former defender took up a prominent assistant manager role with the first-team.

This morning, April 18 2025, Reading players, staff and supporters are waking up to a crunch clash in League One, sitting sixth and charging down the play-offs. However, 10 years ago the buzz was altogether different as over 30,000 supporters were preparing for a day 127 years in the making. It was way back in 1927 that a Reading team had last reached the last four of the prestigious FA Cup, the competition founded the same year as Reading Football Club.
