Liked I knew something was funky with this movie when I first saw it in cinemas – the voiceover, the strange cutting – so I felt vindicated for 22 year old Rory today when I googled "Ad Astra directors cut" and saw an article from 3 years ago where James Gray confirmed he was locked out of the editing room. Always heartbreaking to hear happened with a proper director, and a disastrous choice for the film – it's an economic, sensitive and sterling space exploration drama that plays beautifully...
