Her family said that “she was a loyal and steadfast friend” to Dolores Jones-Butler, Madeline Dunn, Kathy Huggins, and Thelma Arnold Smith and was like a second mother to the late Norma Jean Williams, the late Karla Pierson and Sheena Johnson. She was born July 23, 1929, in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Burrows-Collins, a model, community organizer, and educator in the Philadelphia school district, died May 21, at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, New Jersey, after battling heart disease, multiple stroke, and dementia. She was 82. Born Sept. 23, 1942, in Philadelphia, she was raised in West Philadelphia alongside her brother, Thomas. She studied ballet and played piano and flute while taking after her father, a professional musician.

Her spiritual journey began in childhood in the Episcopal Church, starting at St. Barnabas, a Black mission of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Germantown. She later worshipped at the Church of St. Asaph and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Social media was instantly filled with condolences and tributes, with some of the biggest hip-hop artists paying their respects. “MY MAN HUNIT GRAN,” rapper Raekwon wrote on Instagram. “MR. #SACHAJENKINS, you will be missed.
