The tour guide thanks us several times for "bringing to this place your remembering and love". Welcome to Mauthausen Memorial. Of course, it is we who are grateful to be here at this former concentration camp in upper Austria; visitors from far-away lands humbled to be able to place a compassionate hand on these cold, brutal stone walls, to ponder the industrial-scale evil and unthinkable suffering that happened here and to say Never Again. My wife still isn't sure if she wants to be here.
