A criminal investigation into alleged financial mismanagement at Croydon Council has been dropped, the Metropolitan Police has said. The previous leadership’s handling of the finances were being investigated after the south London council was effectively forced to declare bankruptcy in 2020. Mayor Jason Perry had referred two independent reports into what he called "catastrophic failures in governance" the police.

Thousands of spectators have taken to the streets of the City of London to watch the 2024 Lord Mayor's Show procession. The parade, which dates back to the 13th Century, featured about 7,000 people, 250 horses and 150 floats, from Guildhall to the Royal Courts of Justice on Saturday. The procession marks the first public engagement for the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alistair King.

Government funding, intended to prevent winter deaths is being split among five areas of the capital. The north-central region, which takes in Westminster with the highest number of rough sleepers, will receive nearly £1m. The south-west, which includes Kingston, is set to receive the least at £156,000.
