Plasmon Hybridization Model in Molecules: Molecular Jackhammers We recently demonstrated molecular plasmons in cyanine dyes for the conversion of photon energy into mechanical energy through a whole-molecule coherent vibronic-driven-action. Here we present a model, a molecular plasmon analogue of molecular orbital theory and of plasmon hybridization in metal nanostructures.

In the popular nineteenth century fairy tale and perhaps among the first tales of upcycling, Rumpelstiltskin spun waste straw into gold. Now, researchers convert straw and other cellulosic waste biomass into reduced graphene oxide, a valuable and prized nanomaterial, through a simple reaction.

In this wide-ranging conversation, Meyer and Tour contrast biological evolution with the more complex challenge of chemical evolution, where modern science still struggles to explain how nonliving chemicals could give rise to life. They critique early experiments like the Miller-Urey experiment, emphasizing that producing basic molecules is far from creating life itself.

Stephen Meyer Visits the Multiverse of Madness On today’s ID the Future out of the vault, radio host Michael Medved sits down with bestselling science author Stephen Meyer to discuss the Marvel movie Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Medved isn’t wild about the film, but he uses it as a springboard to dive into what he calls “the madness of the multiverse”—namely, the proposals in physics and cosmology for the idea that our universe is just one of many universes.
