    The Daviess County High School and Owensboro High School musical theater departments are joining together for their first major co-production this weekend, when the schools present “Fiddler on the Roof” Saturday and Sunday in the OHS auditorium. The show was originally planned for Friday and Saturday, but was rescheduled due to the recent flooding.

    Owensboro Municipal Utilities was recently awarded the American Public Power Association’s top safety award, which recognized the utility for its worker safety record and safety policies. Thursday afternoon, OMU General Manager Tim Lyons told city utility commissioners the agency had received a Diamond Award in the APPA’s 2024 Safety Award for Excellence for utilities that worked 110,00 to 249,999 work hours last year. The Diamond Award is the highest safety award the APPA presents to utilities.

    When last week’s severe storms and days of epic rainfall swept over the region, one place that didn’t see flooding was in the Shifley-York neighbors off Bittel Road. “Actually, there is no flooding at all since they’ve done the construction,” former City Commissioner Mark Castlen said Tuesday. In 2022, commissioners approved a $5-million stormwater project in the Shifley-York area, using American Rescue Plan Act dollars the city received for pandemic relief.
