The Daviess County Detention Center presented deputies with recognition for memorable service Wednesday, when Jailer Art Maglinger presented the annual detention center awards. Maglinger said the agency command staff receives nominations and selects winners each year in multiple categories. The award winners present a “standard for the staff to follow,” Maglinger said. The awards were presented this week as part of National Corrections Week.

Natalie Ellis, an educator with 20 years of teaching, coaching and special education experience, was named new principal of Cravens Elementary Monday afternoon. Ellis, who is currently a transition specialist at Owensboro High School, was selected from four finalists to lead Cravens Elementary, which traditionally has a population of 400 students. “I just know, from my perspective, I wanted to be in a position where I could support teachers,” Ellis said of her decision to go into administration.

The state Court of Appeals ruled Friday the Kentucky General Assembly did not violate the constitution when they passed a law requiring constables to receive law enforcement training in order to have police powers. The ruling, which was released Friday, upholds a Franklin Circuit decision that found lawmakers were within their jurisdiction to determine the powers of constables when they passed House Bill 239 in 2022.
