I'm looking forward to striking a couple of late carnival blows on Saturday. It's the last day of the carnival which has flown by this year – I must be getting old. The Sydney weather has done it again. Everything was looking good up until last Saturday morning, 10mm of rain later, the track goes from a good (4) to a heavy (8) and we've had more rain since. After riding on it last week I can't see the track being any better than genuine heavy conditions on Saturday. I need those Weather Gods to start shining some sunshine down on us and if they do it might get back to a soft (7). It is what it is; that's Randwick.

I'm back from a break, the batteries are fully charged and can't wait to get into it on Saturday. I played a bit of golf in my time off, hit them ok and to use a golf term – Saturday is moving day at Randwick. The opening day of The Championships, it doesn't get much bigger and you'd go a long way to find a better race card with so much depth in all 10 races. There are about 170 acceptors which is huge.

This Saturday's going to be different – I'm not a good spectator. A suspension last Saturday has me sidelined this week. My pre-game leading into the weekend will be a couple of rounds of golf and then on the lounge Saturday afternoon. I'm not a good couch jockey, I'll be on the edge of the seat watching the horses intently that I'm hoping to get back on for their following runs.
