U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA9) met with local protesters at the Lebanon County municipal building prior to delivering remarks to county business leaders at a Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at Lebanon City Hall on Thursday, May 29. Meuser said the 75-minute meeting with the protestors was quite civil. “They offered questions and had comments that were important to them, and frankly, important to me,” Meuser said.

A Bethel Township farmer was denied a variance for the operation of a lumber distribution business on his property by an unanimous vote of the township zoning hearing board on May 22. Dale Weiler, of the 300 block of Union Road, had applied for the variance after a complaint was filed with the township’s zoning officer Jackie Hollenbach.

The Bethel Township Zoning Board voted on May 22 to approve a use variance request from Bell & Evans concerning its 241 Blue Mountain Road property, which currently is farmland. The granted variance will allow for the processing, packaging, and storage of agricultural products at that location once two facilities are constructed there.

The main event of the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce’s State of the County program on May 21 was a panel discussion concerning workforce needs in the Lebanon Valley. Other presentations during the 90-minute program focused on various services and programs across Lebanon County. Karen Groh, chamber president, served as panel moderator and prefaced a Q&A session by commenting on the critical need for workforce development for local businesses.
