The severe flooding in the Southeast U.S. brought by Hurricane Idalia highlights the importance of flood insurance. Yesterday, Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida's Big Bend near Keaton Beach, where the Florida Panhandle curves into the peninsula, just before 8 a.m. ET. with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph. Idalia is the strongest storm to hit this part of Florida in more than 100 years, according to Deanne Criswell, head of FEMA.
