The Xperia 1 VII is incoming, but competition from Apple and Samsung and tariff uncertainty means Sony could skip the US like it did with its previous-gen smartphone. Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge has some competition, as Sony will launch its next flagship phone next week, too. The Japanese company has yet to confirm the name of the upcoming smartphone, but if Sony follows its current naming convention, it will likely be the Xperia 1 VII.

Apple's long-rumored smart glasses may be one step closer to reality. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company has made significant progress on the new chips it plans to use in its upcoming glasses. The report says the company is experimenting with two different types of the wearable form factor. One will include augmented reality (AR), a technology the company has already used in its Vision Pro headset, and the other will be without AR.

Part of that refocus appears to be the end of its partnership with Ikea where it had inventive ways of hiding speaker tech in everyday furniture items. The Symfonisk range sold by Ikea was made in tandem with Sonos and appeared to work well for both brands since it was introduced in 2019.
