Over the past three decades, one technology has snuck into the very centre of Australian life, shaping where and how we live. With less than a week until Christmas, the gift guides are out in force. Influencers are peddling perfumes. News sites are pumping out lists of knick-knacks. Bloggers are merrily reviewing gadgets. 'Tis the season of pervasive marketing. Now, can you guess what commission these influencers and publishers get for the products they push? 1 per cent? 5 per cent? It may be 20 per cent or higher.

Strata committee meetings are the latest battleground in electric vehicle (EV) uptake, with some apartment residents banning EV charging in their basement carpark. At the heart of the issue is the question of EV battery fire safety, on which there's disagreement at the highest level. The Australian Building Codes Board, the EV Council and EV fire-safety experts broadly agree that EVs are no more likely to catch fire than petrol or diesel cars.
