Sport Lucy Shuker is determined to enjoy every second of Wimbledon, as she switches her attention to doubles after singles defeat. Shuker lost 6-2 6-0 to South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane on Wednesday, ending her singles hopes in the first round but the 44-year-old refused to be too downbeat. The Dorset-based player will team up with Angelica Bernal in doubles action in SW19, where the British pair will face Li Xiaohui and Zhenzhen Zhu in the quarter-finals.

Sport Gordon Reid is ready to banish the demons of singles defeat ahead of a tilt at a sixth doubles title at Wimbledon. Reid went out of the men’s wheelchair singles in the first round on Wednesday, losing 6-4 6-4 to Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina. It was a mirror of the pair’s match at the LTA’s Lexus British Open Roehampton a week ago, when the Argentine won by the exact same scoreline to notch his first win on grass over the Scot.

Sport Flora Johnson is revelling in her own lack of expectations after notching her first win at Wimbledon. The 17-year-old made an SW19 debut to remember, fighting back from 3-0 down to beat seventh seed Alena Kovackova 6-4 6-2 in the girls’ singles first round. Johnson was given a wildcard into the event but was confident she had the level to cause her opponent problems. And she proved that to be the case after letting her nerves settle after the first few games.

Sport Mimi Xu insists the best is still to come from her at Wimbledon as she booked her place in the second round of the girls’ singles in style. The 16-year-old needed less than an hour to get past Joy de Zeeuw of Netherlands, winning 6-1 6-1 on Court 8. Xu is making her fourth appearance at the All England Club and reached the last 16 in her last two visits, but admitted that taking to the famous lawns never gets any less daunting.
